BCF member Greg Johnson has authored a 14 page technical article which has been posted to the Member Documents section of this website in which he instrumented and measured (in-flight) the performance of two model aircraft: Hobbico Nextstar and a Phoenix Tucano. Greg notes Eagletree measurement transducers and a recording instrument were used to collect flight data on two radio controlled model aircraft of substantially different design. The purpose was to determine how accurately standard full-scale aircraft calculation techniques could be used to predict the model performance recorded by the instrumentation. A second objective was to determine the aerodynamic drag of the two test aircraft as a function of airspeed. Members with inquisitive minds are encouraged to read the article then see Greg if you have questions about it. Greg – nice work.
